Defence and Critical Infrastructure Marketing

Defence and Critical Infrastructure Marketing

You have built something that works. Now you need the people who buy for defence, energy, water, transport and national security to understand it, trust it and buy it.

Morph provides defence marketing and go-to-market consultancy for engineering and technology firms bringing new products into defence and critical infrastructure. We combine consultancy, market research, marketing and PR in one team, led by two Chartered Marketers who run every account personally.

We are based in Portsmouth, at the heart of the UK's naval and maritime defence industry, and work with clients across the UK.

Why these markets are different

Defence and critical infrastructure buyers are cautious for good reason. A failed product here is not an inconvenience; it can be a risk to people, lives, services and national security.

That changes how you sell. Long buying cycles, formal procurement, technical evaluators, standards and compliance, and a small number of decision makers who all talk to each other. Generic marketing does not survive contact with that audience.

The opportunity is real. The MOD has committed to spend £7.5 billion a year with small and medium-sized businesses by 2028, and UK Defence Innovation has a ringfenced budget of at least £400 million a year for new technology. Many of the firms now entering this market have never sold to it before, and that is where specialist defence marketing makes the difference.

How our defence marketing gets you to market

go-to-market strategy and consultancy

We work out where your product fits, who buys it, how they buy and what they need to see first. You get a clear go-to-market plan covering positioning, routes to market, pricing logic and priorities. More on our consultancy.

market research

Independent research with buyers, primes and end users to test demand, sharpen your proposition and find the gaps competitors have missed. More on market research.

positioning and messaging

Technical products need plain, credible language. We translate engineering detail into the benefits that matter to procurement teams, operators and budget holders, without overclaiming.

strategy away days

Facilitated day(s) for your leadership team to agree target markets, priorities and the plan. More on strategy away days.

marketing and PR

Websites, landing pages, microsites, case studies, explainer videos and animations, presentations, pitch decks, technical content, trade press, LinkedIn, event support and thought leadership that builds trust with a specialist audience. More on PR.

business development support

Target account planning, sales materials and support getting in front of primes, framework holders and public buyers. More on business development.

Sectors we support

Defence and security suppliers, including SMEs moving into the defence supply chain. Dual-use technology firms selling into both defence and civil markets. Energy, utilities and water. Transport and maritime. Fire, smoke control and life safety systems. Cyber security and resilience providers serving critical infrastructure. And the engineering and manufacturing firms that supply all of them.

Our approach

1. listen

We learn your product, your team and your ambitions in detail.

2. research

We test the market and talk to the people who buy.

3. plan

We agree a focused go-to-market plan with clear priorities.

4. launch

We build the website, content, PR and sales tools to deliver it.

5. grow

We measure, refine and keep you visible to the right buyers.

Discreet by default

We understand that some products, customers and contracts cannot be talked about. We agree what can and cannot be shared before any work goes public, and we are comfortable working under NDA.

Engineering experience you can check

We have spent years marketing technical firms, from smoke control and ventilation engineers to aerospace and defence manufacturers. For Portsmouth Aviation we created a customer-targeted brochure, a new presentation pack and a refresh of their brand, delivered in under ten days. Read our smoke control case study and see our engineering and manufacturing marketing work.

“Jamie listened to the brief and gave knowledgeable advice, drawn from his experience, and asked the right questions.”

Common questions

do you only work with defence companies?

No. Defence marketing is one part of what we do. We work with any firm bringing a product into defence or critical infrastructure, including companies selling into these sectors for the first time and dual-use businesses with civil customers too.

can you help us win MOD contracts?

We help you become visible, credible and ready to bid: clear positioning, strong case studies, the right content and research that evidences demand. We do not replace your bid team, but we make their job easier.

what is a go-to-market plan?

It is the plan for how a new product reaches its buyers: who you sell to, what you say, which channels and partners you use, and in what order. We build it from research, not guesswork.

what counts as critical national infrastructure?

The UK government treats sectors such as energy, water, transport, communications, health, defence and data infrastructure as critical national infrastructure, because disruption would seriously affect the country.

can you work under an NDA?

Yes. We agree confidentiality before any detailed discussion.

how do we start?

Book a call with one of our directors. We will talk through your product and market and suggest the right first step, whether that is research, a strategy day or a full launch plan.

Ready to take your product to market?

Talk to Rachel or Jamie about your product, your market and where you want to be in 12 months. Every defence marketing project we run starts with that conversation.
