Independent Market Research Agency

Before you commit to a new site, a new product or a new market, you want to know one thing: is there enough demand, and can you win it?

We answer that question with evidence. Not a survey template and a chart pack — a piece of research shaped around the decision you are actually about to make, delivered in a document you can take to a bank, a board or an investor.

Morph is a Portsmouth-based agency working across the UK. Our market research services run from a focused competitor analysis to full primary research with a go or no-go recommendation, and you work directly with a director throughout.

Our market research services

market sizing + demand

How big the opportunity really is in your area or category, who already holds it, and how fast it is growing or shrinking. We combine published data with primary research so the number stands up to challenge.

competitor analysis

Who you are really up against, what they charge, how they position themselves, where they are weak, and what customers say about them in public. Practical, not academic.

customer + audience research

Interviews, surveys and focus groups with the people you want to sell to. What they value, what they will pay, what stops them buying, and the language they use — which then feeds straight into your marketing.

feasibility studies

A go or no-go recommendation on a specific proposition, site or launch, with the assumptions and risks set out plainly so a lender or board can interrogate them.

location + catchment research

For anyone opening a venue, a site or a facility: catchment population, travel times, competing provision and realistic capture rates.

Market validation for universities, spinouts and research commercialisation

A promising piece of research is not yet a business. Before a spinout raises, before a licence is negotiated, and before an enterprise team commits further funding, somebody has to establish whether a real market exists for the thing — and who, specifically, would pay for it.

We do that work. Market validation is market research applied to an unproven proposition, and it asks harder questions than a conventional study: not just how big the market is, but whether the people in it recognise the problem, what they use instead today, and what would have to be true for them to switch.

University enterprise, innovation and knowledge exchange teams assessing a portfolio of research outputs, or supporting an academic team through a validation stage.

Spinouts and pre-seed ventures that need independent evidence of demand for an investment case or a grant application.

Academics and research groups at the point where the question shifts from “does this work?” to “does anybody want it?”

What a validation engagement typically includes: a problem and market definition workshop with the research team, desk research on the existing competitive and technology landscape, twenty to forty structured interviews with potential customers and channel partners, a segmentation and route-to-market assessment, and a written report with a clear recommendation and the evidence behind it.

We are independent of the institution and of the venture, which matters — it is the reason funders and investment committees weigh this work differently to an internal assessment.

“They took the time to understand what we were trying to achieve, and translated this into well-structured research that provided useful and actionable insights.”

“Their work has been genuinely valuable in helping us refine our market understanding and inform our next steps. I would be very happy to recommend Morph PR and Marketing to organisations looking for professional market research.”

Sectors we know well

We bring genuine sector knowledge to research work, which shortens the ramp-up and sharpens the questions:

Higher education and research commercialisation — market validation for spinouts, licensing decisions and enterprise teams.

Leisure and activity venues — including climbing and indoor activity centres, where we have researched demand, catchment and competing provision.

Accommodation and hospitality — occupancy, rate positioning, direct-booking behaviour and guest expectations, informed by our hospitality and tourism work.

Property and development — see our property marketing work.

Engineering and manufacturing — see our engineering marketing work.

Education and training — see our education sector work.

How it works

01 — define the decision

We start from what you will do differently depending on the answer. That keeps the research tight and the fee sensible.

02 — design the method

Desk research, interviews, survey, mystery shopping or a combination — proposed in writing with a fixed fee.

03 — gather the evidence

We do the fieldwork. You are not asked to chase your own customers for responses.

04 — analyse + challenge

We test the findings against what you believed going in, and we tell you when the two do not match.

05 — report + present

A written report with clear recommendations, plus a session walking your team, board or investment committee through it.

Why use an agency rather than do it yourself

Three reasons. Customers are far more candid with an independent researcher than with the owner of the business. Funders, boards and investment committees weigh independent evidence differently to an internal opinion. And because we are a marketing agency, the findings do not stop at the report — they become positioning, messaging and campaigns we can build for you.

Common questions

how much does market research cost?

A focused piece of desk research and competitor analysis starts lower than most people expect. Full primary research with interviews and a feasibility recommendation costs more. Either way you get a fixed fee before the work starts.

how long does it take?

Desk-based work is typically two to three weeks. Research involving interviews or surveys usually runs four to eight, depending on how hard your audience is to reach.

can we use the research to raise finance?

Yes. We write reports on the assumption a lender, investor or funding panel will read them, with sources and assumptions stated.

do you work with universities on procurement frameworks?

Yes. Talk to us about the route that suits your institution and we will work with your procurement team.

do you do the marketing afterwards?

Only if you want us to. The research stands on its own, and you own it.
