Business and Management Consultancy
Most owner-led businesses don't get stuck because they lack ideas. They get stuck because there is nobody senior enough, and independent enough, to sit down and work out which idea to back — and what has to change internally to make it work.
That is the job. Our business consultancy gives you a strategy consultant and a second pair of hands on the decision, not a report that sits in a drawer. Rachel and Jamie O'Reilly are both Chartered Marketers and Fellows of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, with eighteen years running Morph and senior management experience across the private and public sectors. You get directors in the room, not a junior consultant with a template.
We are based in Portsmouth and work with clients across Hampshire, the South Coast and nationally.
Who we work with
We work best with organisations that are already doing something well and now need the structure to do more of it:
Owner-managed businesses of five to fifty people where the founder is still the bottleneck — the classic small business consultant brief.
Established firms entering a new market, sector or region.
Charities, trusts and partnerships answering to a board or funder.
Businesses going through transition — a rebrand, an acquisition, a founder stepping back, a new leadership team.
What we advise on
growth strategy
Where the next three years of revenue realistically comes from, which opportunities to drop, and what capacity you need to build to serve them. Grounded in evidence, not optimism.
structure + roles
Who owns what, where decisions get made, and which gaps in your team are quietly costing you. We look at the structure you actually operate, not the one on the org chart.
proposition + positioning
What you sell, to whom, at what price, and why they should choose you over the obvious alternative. This is where our marketing background earns its place — a proposition that cannot be communicated is not a proposition.
performance + measurement
A short set of numbers your leadership team can actually run the business on, reported in a way that prompts decisions rather than discussion.
board + funder reporting
Clear, credible papers and reporting for trustees, investors and funding bodies — including the evidence base behind them.
How an engagement works
01 — discovery call
A free conversation with one of our directors to understand the situation and decide whether we are the right people. Thirty minutes, no pitch deck.
02 — scoping
We agree the question we are actually answering, the people we need to speak to, and a fixed fee. You get this in writing before anything starts.
03 — evidence
Interviews with your team and customers, a review of your numbers, and desk research where the market is the unknown.
04 — recommendations
A working session with you and your leadership team, followed by a written report you can hand to a board.
05 — support through delivery
Optional. Many clients keep us on a retained day or half-day a month to hold the plan steady once normal business resumes.
Why a marketing agency for business consultancy
Because the two are inseparable in a business of your size. A strategy that never reaches a customer is a document. We have spent eighteen years turning decisions into websites, campaigns, brands and press coverage — so when we recommend something, we know what it costs to deliver and we can deliver it.
It also means no handover. The same directors who set the strategy can run the marketing, rebuild the website and handle the PR that follows from it.
Common questions
how much does a business consultant cost?
Most projects are quoted as a fixed fee once we have scoped the work, so you know the cost before you commit. Shorter advisory work is charged by the day. Retained support is usually a day or half-day a month.
how long does a project take?
A focused piece of work — one market, one decision — typically runs four to six weeks. A full strategy review with board recommendations is usually eight to twelve.
do you work outside hampshire?
Yes. We are based in Portsmouth and work with clients across the South and nationally. Discovery and working sessions are better in person where that is practical.
is this different to your business mentoring?
Yes. Business mentoring develops you as a leader, one to one. Consultancy examines the organisation and delivers recommendations. Plenty of clients use both.
